Making Changes to Your Coverage During the Year Consistent with IRS rules, you may make changes during the year only if you have a change in status or qualifying life event. In most cases, the enrollment decisions you make will remain effective from January 1 through December 31, 2020. If you are a 2020 new hire, the enrollment decisions you make will remain in effective from your benefits eligibility date through December 31, 2020. However, you may change some of your elections during the year if you have a qualifying change in status, provided the coverage change is consistent with your status change. Changes in status include: • Birth or adoption of a child • Marriage • Divorce, legal separation • Death of a covered dependent • Change in employment status for you or your spouse that results in a gain or loss of benefits • Change in your dependent’s eligibility for benefits • Issuance of a qualified medical child support order You must make any coverage changes within 30 days of the change in status, except in the case of a birth or adoption of a child, in which case you will have 60 days to change your coverage. If you don’t make the change within 31 days of the change in status, you may not make the change until the next annual Open Enrollment period. You may enroll in or change your benefit elections for the new plan year which begins January 1. 6 When Coverage Ends Most benefits coverage will end on the last day of the month in which you terminate employment or you become ineligible for benefits. Flexible Spending Account participation as well as life insurance and disability coverage end on the last day of full-time employment.
